Hanging Out With The Friendeyes In Cellpop Goes Out At Night

You may wish to read my post about The Real Texas before diving into this one.

The very first Keeping Score post that I ever wrote, around two years ago, was about The Real Texas. I’d finally been enticed to play it many years after my purchase, because a new mini-sequel had appeared, called Cellpop Goes Out At Night. I was already late then, of course. Cellpop appeared way back in 2016, and I’m only just getting to it now. It’s technically DLC (“downloadable content”) for The Real Texas, but developers Kitty Lambda (aka Calvin French) bill it as the first part of a sequel, with the full title “The Real Texas – Part 2, Part One – Cellpop Goes Out At Night”.

Scratching That Itch: 1-6 Oozes In The Dark

This is the twenty-ninth entry in the Scratching That Itch series, wherein I randomly select and write about one of the 1741 games and game-related things included in the itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality. The Bundle raised $8,149,829.66 split evenly between the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and Community Bail Fund, but don’t worry if you missed it. There are plenty of ways you can help support the vital cause of racial justice; try here for a start. Lastly, as always, you may click on images to view larger versions.

This time, the random number generators have selected 1-6 Oozes in the Dark, by Deus Ex Minima, from the itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality. Its tagline in the bundle reads:

A print-and-play micro-module for 5e

That “5e” refers to the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons, which is incidentally the only tabletop role-playing game that I’ve actually played myself. My group finished one adventure module and started a second one before various life things interfered and the game fizzled out. That means I don’t have people to actually play 1-6 Oozes in the Dark with, but hopefully my (limited) experience with 5e Dungons & Dragons will help me assess it anyway.

Scratching That Itch: [HammerA] HammerTime !

This is the twenty-eighth entry in the Scratching That Itch series, wherein I randomly select and write about one of the 1741 games and game-related things included in the itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality.

Our next random selection from the itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality is [HammerA] HammerTime !, by K.hermann. Its tagline in the bundle reads:

[HammerA] HammerTime ! is an short interactive 2d anime game !

Very well, K.hermann. I will interact with your short 2d anime game.

Keeping Score: Transistor

This is Keeping Score, a series about games and their soundtracks. As always, you may click on images to view larger versions.

Longtime readers may recall that I quite enjoyed Bastion, the first game from Supergiant Games. I’d always intended to check out their sophomore effort, Transistor, but never got around to it. Now, Supergiant Games have released two more titles: Pyre, which is actually included in the itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality and so might pop up in my Scratching That Itch series eventually, and Hades, which is enjoying critical acclaim after a very successful stint in Early Access. It’s high time I got caught up with their catalog.

Scratching That Itch: Emberlight

This is the twenty-seventh entry in the Scratching That Itch series, wherein I randomly select and write about one of the 1741 games and game-related things included in the itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality.

The random number generators have whirred to life once again, pulling another selection from the itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality. This time it’s Emberlight, by Quarter Onion Games. Its tagline in the bundle reads:

A true roguelite dungeon crawler set in a world where the Gods have given…

The character limit means we may never know what the Gods have given. My guess is they haven’t given very much.

Scratching That Itch: Blockara

This is the twenty-sixth entry in the Scratching That Itch series, wherein I randomly select and write about one of the 1741 games and game-related things included in the itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality.

Our next random selection from the itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality is Blockara, by Haunted Bees Productions. Its tagline in the bundle reads:

Head-to-head competitive puzzle action!

That’s right, folks. None of that staid, boring puzzle stuff here. This is pure, intense, white-knuckled puzzle action.

Scratching That Itch: 2d Flight Simulator

This is the twenty-fifth entry in the Scratching That Itch series, wherein I randomly select and write about one of the 1704 1741 games and game-related things included in the itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality. The Bundle raised $8,175,279.81 $8,149,829.66 split evenly between the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and Community Bail Fund, but don’t worry if you missed it. There are plenty of ways you can help support the vital cause of racial justice; try here for a start. Lastly, as always, you may click on images to view larger versions.

Readers, it has come to my attention that there are more than 1704 items in the itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality. There are in fact 1741. I am certain that when the bundle had just finished, there were 1704 items included, and this was also reported elsewhere, so I’m not crazy. At some point later, more items were added, bringing the total to 1741. But never fear, my random selections have actually been random, as they are based on first picking one of the 58 pages of entries in the bundle, and then picking one of the 30 entries per page (except for page 58, which has 31 items to account for the single entry on page 59). I simply realized that (58*30) + 1 = 1741, not 1704, and then confirmed the correct total on the itch.io page. I have edited earlier entries in the series to reflect this new total. It’s a small enough change that our percentage of completion is barely affected.

This time, the random numbers picked 2d flight simulator, by phstsoftware. Its tagline in the bundle reads:

An arcade 2d flight simulator

I guess the title is pretty self-explanatory.
